Vote blue, no matter who!

Vote red, until you’re dead!

Those are two commonly heard political slogans. Whichever party we might be registered with, (and fewer of us every year are choosing to identify with either party in our duopoly system), we are strongly encouraged to be myopically loyal to the candidates who represent it.

These slogans also may resonate with many American voters as an excuse to not have to think about it too deeply. For one thing, if you are like me, you had virtually nothing to do with selecting the party candidate in the first place. We probably did not go to a precinct meeting. We are not active in impactful ways for the party we might be registered with. Even worse, we probably did not study any critical background information about the candidates on the ballot of any party they represent.

Campaign flyers and media advertisements do not count toward learning important details about who a candidate is. Nothing a candidate says in America’s political arena today should be taken at face value, ever. Nothing a candidate says he or she believes or stands for should be taken seriously. Claiming to believe or stand for something is never a guarantee they will actually work for that belief, or put themselves on the line to the extent that it might lead to…
