“Both poverty and wealth are the offspring of thought”

- Mark Fisher

It all starts with a thought…

You’ve heard that statement many times in your life. Pretty amazing idea when you really think about it, isn’t it? We’ve all had some thoughts we would gladly erase if we had the option. But we’ve had some really good ones, too! So what did we do with them? Well, if you are typical, probably nothing at all. You just let it go by and never gave it another thought. Thoughts can be like that. And so can people.

Everything you have ever done, ever wanted, and ever hoped for began with you having a thought first. Albert Einstein said “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” So just in case you still think thoughts aren’t that important, a guy most of us regard as pretty darn smart seemed to think they matter (pun intended) quite a bit.

Before a meaningful action can be initiated, a thought had to come first to inspire that action. Every invention that has come into reality was only a thought at first. All the conveniences and devices that we take for granted in our everyday lives began as a thought before they became available and useful. There are no exceptions to this fact. Spiritual references state that the entire universe was first a thought of God. So I’m trying to make the case here that thoughts are a pretty big deal!

How much attention have you paid to the random thoughts you have throughout the day? How many times have you awakened from your night’s sleep with a profound thought on your mind, and wondered how that came to you? If you are like most of us, by the end of the day that thought is long gone, perhaps never to visit you again because you didn’t take the time to write it down and ponder it. Unfortunately, we are not naturally inclined to take such events seriously enough to record them for later reference. That is our loss. Thoughts are only random because we choose to label them as such. Give some credence to the idea that thoughts are never random and always have a purpose. Our challenge is to recognize what that potential purpose might be in our lives.

So think about your thoughts. You are creating your own personal goldmine in the privacy of your own mind and all you have likely done with it so far is just shovel more dirt on top of it making it even more difficult to discover. When you look at it that way it seems a bit ridiculous, doesn’t it?

On your personal journey to creating your personal wealth, honor your thoughts as one of your greatest assets. Through the course of your day, regardless of what you do, you are encountering countless experiences and events that feed your thinking process. Your mind stores these incidents for later use and benefit. Buried in that goldmine is a potential idea that serves a broad need that can be useful and valuable to a lot of people, even perhaps the entire world. To quote Mark Fisher, “Nearly everyone alive has at least one talent that when passionately pursued and acted on can create personal wealth.” Why wouldn’t you want to be fully conscious of that reality?

Here is an important question to help you answer that. Do you believe you deserve it? Do you really? It could totally transform your entire life, you know. Are you ready for that?

Remember, both poverty and wealth are the offspring of thought. Which thought do you prefer to nurture?
